Towards a Brighter Future
Towards a Brighter Future
Hanlons have long been advocates for quenching the nation’s thirst, whilst also trying to leave as little carbon footprint as humanly possible. Solar panels power our brewery, the water in our beer is sourced directly from our beautiful, Devon-based site, which is great for the environment and taste in equal measures. Also, we continue a programme of tree planting in order to help offset any carbon which we as a company contribute to our precious atmosphere. However, there is more to do.
As with every brewery, we have a problem to solve. During the brewing process, we emit CO2, however we also purchase CO2 in order to put the ‘fizz’ into our kegs. What we, and many other small breweries like ours need is an affordable, safe, clean way of capturing, storing, cleaning and reusing the CO2 which we produce. For this reason, we are working hard, using all of our experience and knowledge in an attempt to solve this pressing conundrum.
We are actively researching and developing a cheap, safe, workable solution so that we can share our findings with EVERY small brewery in the world. This is pretty complex/costly work, but we are making significant progress and have teamed up with other small businesses in order to share our ever growing knowledge base in this field.
Zero Carbon by 2050 is a huge ask, but by collaborating, sharing ideas and making incremental babysteps as an industry, we as proud British brewers can lead the way in trying to create greener, tastier and more sustainable beer.
